In midsummer, the CN hosts a luncheon in Washington for its summer interns, year-long fellows, and their bosses. The event is an opportunity to build collegiality among the Network’s interns and their supervisors. Editors and interns alike interact with their counterparts at other publications and media outlets. The CN staff offers a brief update of its programs and recognizes students for any special awards they might have received during the previous year. Some of the editors present usually offer remarks on some aspect of journalism.

The 2008 event was held at the Tabbard Inn in downtown D.C. Douglas Minson, executive director of academic affairs at ISI spoke about the purpose of journalism, and Mort Kondracke, executive editor of Roll Call, discussed the future of news and encouraged the interns and fellows to report objectively.
